Northshore School District board meeting to discuss continuing 175-day school year
The Board of Directors is considering a resolution to seek a renewal of a state waiver to continue a 175-day student calendar at its Jan. 11, 2011, board meeting, 4 p.m., Northshore Administrative Center. Community input is welcome.
Last year, the district used the waiver days to focus on school improvement review and planning, and site-based teacher training, based on need, in areas such as literacy, math and social studies.
The 175-day calendar allows for better continuity of instruction, fewer partial student days and improved curriculum planning and staff development time for teachers. The State Board of Education must grant a waiver for the proposed calendar. A decision on the waiver would be made in March 2011.
