Check out this bear that came into a back yard of Bothell! It was a big one! Make sure to keep your eyes open out there. This one was pretty big for being around this area. In fact, I don’t think I have seen a larger bear in Bothell before? Woodinville typically gets most of the bears here in the Northshore area and it surprises us to see a bear that large in Bothell. Then to hear that it came back a second time…well, that my friend is a repeat offender in my book. #stayfrostybothell

Kiro 7 had a great write up on it here:

As a resident of Bothell or even as someone who likes spending time in Bothell, you have the opportunity to participate in the development of the Sammamish River Capital Investment Strategy (CIS). This strategy aims to address flood risks, protect fish and wildlife habitat, and meet the needs of local residents. King County is seeking input from the community through a survey, and your feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the Sammamish River.

The Sammamish River holds great significance for Bothell and the surrounding area. Stretching 14 miles from Lake Sammamish to Lake Washington, the river passes through various communities, including ours. Over the years, our city has experienced growth, and the river has become a popular location for recreational activities such as walking, biking, fishing, and boating. However, some of the recent development has had negative effects on the river’s health.

What's Sup Surf and Paddle Boards is a great way to experience the Sammamish River in Bothell and Kenmore

Many of us use the Sammamish River for recreation. Hiking on the Burke-Gilman Trail, enjoying watersports along the river all the while enjoying the wildlife that comes with having a healthy river. Man and nature CAN coinhabit areas, but it takes work. Great local companies like What’s Sup Stand-Up Paddle and Surf are super conscious of this delicate balance and are advocates for maintain the river.

It is important to recognize that the Sammamish River is part of the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish People, adding cultural and historical value to the area. The decline of the Kokanee salmon, which once served as an important food source and cultural symbol for the Coast Salish, is concerning. Changes in land use have contributed to the degradation of the river, affecting the overall habitat for fish and wildlife.

By participating in the survey and providing your insights, you have the opportunity to contribute to the efforts aimed at preserving and restoring the Sammamish River. Your input will help guide future projects to mitigate flood risks, improve the river’s health, and ensure the well-being of fish and wildlife populations.

Please, take the time to do this quick survey. We all want change and our thoughts taken into account, well Bothell, here is your chance. If you love the ability to boat, bike and walk along the Sammamish River, this is an important survey to take:

We all have cameras on our phones and can take pictures. But can we REALLY take pictures. I feel like I can take pictures right up until I see professional pictures from someone who does this for a living. Recently I stumbled across Willow and Oak Photography’s Instagram and thought, boy these are pictures. If you are in Bothell, I would suggest checking them out. Jessica is offering her photography services here in Northshore as well as the Seattle area. A little more about Jessica and Willow and Oak Photography:

Jessica Leite owner of Willow and Oak Photography is a newborn and family photographer who originated in Utah. She has since moved to Bothell with continuation of her photography business! Jessica has 5 years of photography experience and is always looking for ways to improve and push her creativity. She describes her style as warm and timeless.

From her website: “I’m Jessica Leite owner of Willow and Oak photography! Ever since I can remember I’ve had a fascination with capturing moments. When I was little my parents would purchase me disposable cameras, you know the scrolly film ones?! I would go through one a day shooting all sorts of things! Since then I have retired the scrolly camera and have upgraded to my dream camera – Cannon 5D mark IV! She’s a beaut! Over the years I have worked at a local studio where I learned all of the ins and outs of studio lighting. Since then I have broken off and created my very own photography business. I specialize in Newborn and Family photography but am open to all sorts to push my creativity. I’m a photographer with years of experience and have been shooting professionally for 5 years now.

My husband Ricardo is from Brazil and I am from Arizona. We met while in London! We have been married for four years and have a daughter, Beatrice Ray.”

What is also great, Jessica offers free shoots for all high risk NICU babies. From her website: “My heart goes out to all of  you sweet Mamas and NICU babies! In instances where baby is at high risk, the last thing I want you to worry about is taking pictures of your little one for them to be forever remembered. This is why I offer FREE shoots for all high risk NICU babies. I may not be able to accommodate everyone who comes to me but know I will do my very best to do so. Please contact me below, I would be happy to help out in any way possible!”

Keep Jessica in mind when you are looking for a infant, family or lifestyle photographer with great style and remember to always shop local! Keep our dollars here in Bothell!

I cannot tell you how many times during lunch I had a hankering for some carne asada from Poquitos Bothell. With COVID happening Bothell restaurants took it in the chin. It was downright desolate in downtown Bothell. Well, it looks like things are opening up and we just heard that Poquitos is now open for lunch! We will do an episode of the Northshore Pulse podcast down there soon, so keep your eyes open for the drop.

If you were to ask me what is my favorite Poquitos menu item…. toss up between the tacos pastor or the carne asada. Their new lunch hours are listed below. Oh! Poquitos Bothell also has a killer happy hour. I would suggest checking it out as well.

NOW OPEN FOR LUNCH! INDOOR & PATIO DINING • TAKEOUT & DELIVERY DAILY HAPPY HOUR

Poquitos Bothell is open for lunch

We are super excited about having a new option for lunch in Downtown Bothell! Plus, with the great weather we have been having as of late, outdoor seating is a great option for meeting in groups. What I also like is that they use locally sourced meat and produce for most of their food. They also import the important traditional Mexican ingredients so that everything tastes deliciously authentic…and yes, they have great salsa.

At Poquitos we present delicious Mexican cuisine prepared with ingredients from the best of both worlds—locally sourced meats & produce and imported ingredients important to honoring the culinary traditions of Mexico. Come try our fresh guacamole, seasonal margaritas, pork carnitas, coastal ceviche, and so much more.

Dine with us in our indoor dining room or covered outdoor patio—all ages are welcome! Reservations are accepted. Takeout and delivery are also available directly from our website (pre-order up to three days in advance). We look forward to seeing you soon!

Poquitos new hours are:

SUN-THURS: 12–10PM
FRI & SAT: 12–11PM
WEEKEND BRUNCH: 12pm–3pm
HAPPY HOUR: 3–6PM weekdays + last hour before close every night

Sofia Drogomiretskiy, the owner, grew up in a Ukrainian household where Christmas took center-stage. She credits her mom with a growing love of the holiday, admitting that one of the fondest memories was always watching her decorate an extravagant tree. However, as a self-proclaimed Christmas enthusiast, Sofia started to uncover some of the less merry aspects of decorating. When she realized that the most waste was produced during the holiday season, she made it her mission to find a way to change the way we celebrate.

Decorent - Christmas decoration design and rental - Bothell WashingtonThis holiday season, check your New Year’s resolution off early and reduce your carbon footprint in style. By renting instead, you will participate in a sharing economy that reduces waste, encourages a sense of community, and promotes economic development. With all of this craziness the questions that must be answered…. Is Santa Claus Coming to Town?? We asked our good friends at NW Santa Photos, a local Bothell family Santa portrait business this same question and below was their response:

“In the middle of a global pandemic this is the question that is on the minds of children around the world. Well there’s “Good News” From the Great White North! The answer is YES!! Santa is on his way!

Northwest Santa Photos - Safe Santa photosNot since the reindeer had to step into a toy making role back in 1918 has Santa encountered a global pandemic. The jolly old elf’s learned a lot since then. Not only does he keep the Sleigh Team far from paint and glue (turns out they don’t wash out of reindeer fur) and banned Rudolph from ever testing toy trains again (he likes to run them so fast the wheels fly off), but that was the year he established the “North Pole Center for Magical Health”, that’s the N.P.C.M.H to you and me!

So this year, in the wake of Covid-19, the N.P.C.M.H. with the help of the CDC, Santa has been proactive in enforcing strict mandates. They have been instrumental in keeping Santa’s Elf campus healthy. So children across the world who are asking parents whether Santa will be visiting, in fear that Christmas will just be yet another loss, can breathe a sigh of relief!

Finally, there is an annual tradition that will not succumb to the hold that the virus has on all of us.

Schedule your visit with Santa in the Mill Creek Town Center today!

BOOK YOUR SAFE SANTA SESSION NOW!

Thanks to our amazing Town Center Santa sponsors, First Financial Northwest Bank, Spotted Cow, HomeStreet Bank, Columbia Funding Mortgage and Banner Bank, Santa will be visiting the Mill Creek Town Center from November 27th through the morning of December 24th.

While children will not be able to sit on Santa’s knee, they will be able to interact with the Big Guy, read their wish list and convince him that they deserve some- thing other than coal in their stockings. NW Santa Photos has designed a safe Santa photo experience in the former ANKO location at 15506 Main St, suite 101 in the south end of the Town Center.

Here in Bothell, we have a number of super creative entrepreneurs which has always impressed me. I love it when folks identify problems, create solutions to those problems and then bring those solutions to market. Below was an email sent over from Sofia, the owner of Bothell’s Decorant. Sofia and her husband have found sound solution to the Christmas decoration blues. Everything from design to storage. What a great idea:

“As a local from Bothell, I’ve been an avid follower of the Bothell Blog for some time now. I love your content and how you always support local small businesses. I would love the opportunity to connect with someone about my family-owned startup that only operates locally.

Decorant - Bothell based Family owned Christmas Decoration Rental and design companyA little information about us, last year my husband and I launched a start-up called Decorent (check out our website here). It all started with the year we purchased our first home together, or more specifically our first holiday season in said home. After spending way too much time and money purchasing Christmas decor, once the holidays were over we then spent even more time figuring out where to store everything (because let’s face it, homes are ever-shrinking in the area). At that moment we felt like we’d be celebrating ‘white winter wonderland’ (the theme we invested in), for the rest of our lives.

I remember when my husband said, ‘I wish we could have just rented all this’ – our eyes lit up and we knew that we had to make this idea happen. So for the next three years, we dedicated a lot of time to creating Decorent. We finally launched our company last year and are still in the process of getting this new idea out there to others like us.

We opened Decorent for many reasons, one of which is the flexibility of changing Christmas tree designs annually, and another is the obvious lack of storage (because Christmas decor sits around for 11 months of the year). But we also created this company because we are avid supporters of going green. Our company helps reduce holiday waste (which is a serious issue in the US) and promotes a sharing economy! All our packaging is reusable, and we don’t offer any plastic ornaments on our website. We also strive to rent only the highest quality Christmas decor, including mercury glass ornaments, mouth-blown baubles, and hand made ornaments.”

Decorent is a great example of finding problem and finding a solution to the problem. It’s about making our lives easier while at the same time, bringing class and style to the holiday season. Send Sofia an email today to get started. You can find Decorent all over the internet:
